Update: January 12, 2025
Since the initial publication of this post I have created a Linktree collecting all of the requests & resources the artists I follow have been sharing, in an effort to make accessing this information as efficient as possible for those in need.

Happy New Year, Fam!
I had planned to pop into your day today with a post celebrating a few highlights from the end of 2024; however in the time between drafting and proofing this post, a number of communities in Los Angeles, California have been devastated by wildfires, and many homes, businesses, livelihoods and lives have been lost. 😔
Given how far away I am geographically, and how little I have to offer financially, I wanted to do whatever else I could to support the people in need, and reworking this post to signal boost the information being shared by our featured artists, felt like a good place to start.

First up, Brittany and her team at PureBarre North Hollywood shared this post on their Instagram, encouraging any members who have been displaced from their home studios to reach out, as owners at studios still in operation are “opening their classes to … impacted members to provide a sense of normalcy and peace.”
In the same post they assure members they “continue to gather information” and “will equally continue to share resources on how to help.” So if you want to keep up with their efforts, be sure to give @purebarrenorthhollywood a follow on Instagram (and maybe add them to your Favourites so you’ll be more likely to see their posts.)

Linney has also been sharing regular updates on her IG Stories, including a link to a GoFundMe campaign to rebuild one of her favourite, independent restaurants, Cholada Thai, which has been serving [the best] Thai food in Malibu for 25 years.
In an economic climate where small businesses are already fighting to stay alive, I can only imagine what a blow this must have been, and as someone who wants to live in a world where businesses that are truly invested in their communities are the ones that thrive, I felt compelled to follow Linney’s lead and do what I could to support their efforts to rebuild.

I’ve included a link to the campaign below, if you’d like to learn more, and if you are not in a position to donate financially, or there are other places and people in need of your care, please do not feel pressured.
As Nick, the owner of Cholada Thai, points out in the GoFund Me description, sharing is ABSOLUTLEY caring & can be just as impactful as a monetary donation, because you never know who your post might reach! So if you have the bandwidth to share the link with your community, I’m sure they would v. much appreciate it, and so would I! 🙏

& finally, s/o to DJSPAWN, one of Linney’s regular supporters, for reposting a reminder from MusiCares about the emergency relief services they offer specifically to musicians across the U.S and Puerto Rico.
If you happen to know artists in the L.A. area who have been directly effected by the fires and are in need of financial support, feel free to send them to musicares.org/get-help for more information. They can also reach out via email @ musicaresrelief@musicares.org or by phone @ 1-800-687-4227
(Please Note: A minimum of five years employment in the music industry, OR six commercially released recordings or videos (singles) is require to be eligible, and this particular event would fall under the category of Human Services.)
During the finalization of this post, MusiCares posted additional immediate relief offerings from the Red Cross, Uber & Lyft on their Instagram as well.

That’s it for now, NovelliFans.
If you have any additional leads on people or places in LA looking for support, please feel free to drop them in the comments!
& if you’re in need of support yourself, one of my favourite visual artists Devon Blow has put together a great post on Instagram, highlighting all sorts of Mutual Aid resources in the area.
Sending so much love your way, wherever you are in the world!
